Bronx, N.Y. – (December 8, 2018) – After a number of teams pulled out of this week's Fordham Round Robin, the Fordham squash team was left with just one match for the weekend against Duke University on Saturday night. The Rams ended the semester on a high note with a 9-0 win over the Blue Devils, improving Fordham's record to 12-4 on the year.
The Rams started off with a 1-0 lead, as Duke had only eight players for the match. Fordham then secured the team win with victories at the #2, #4, #6, and #8 positions. Patrick Roddin topped Philippe Heitzmann in three games, 11-5, 11-6, and 12-10, at second position, while
Tommy White ousted Will Long at the #4 slot, 11-9, 11-5, and 11-1.
Justin Deckoff needed four games to get past Ian Buchanan at #6 position, 10-12, 11-6, 11-2, and 11-6, with
Henry Poehlein posting an 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 win over Susan Yun at the eighth slot.
Fordham then completed the match sweep by taking the final four matches.
Justin Esposito defeated Hugh Esterson, 11-4, 11-2, and 11-2 at the #7 position, followed by Winthrop Reed topping Griffin McDaniel in three games at #5 (11-9, 11-6, 11-1).
Griffin Fitzgerald won in four games at the third slot over Rishabh Jain, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-8, with
Will Pantle making his season debut for Fordham by defeating Carson Hill in three games, 11-6, 13-11, and 11-6.
The Rams are now off until January 19
th when Fordham hosts Connecticut College at 11:00 AM.
