Bronx, N.Y. – (October 18, 2018) – The Fordham swimming & diving teams kicked off their 2018-19 season at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Centeron Thursday night, hosting the Marist Red Foxes. The Rams came away with a split of the meet as the women won 148-93, while the men fell by a 156-81 score.
The Fordham women came away with nine event wins on the evening with a pair of multi-event winners.
Hannah McGee took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.80 and the 200 butterfly in 2:08.05, while
Caitlin McNary garnered the top spot in the 200 (1:54.73) and 500 (5:08.62) freestyle events. McNary also contributed to a win in the 400 freestyle relay with
Kysha Altura,
Samantha McDonald, and
Kiara Norris, as the group clocked in at 3:36.18.
Other individual winners on Thursday night included
Michelle Martin in the 50 freestyle (24.06),
Tara Brunner in the 100 freestyle (52.09), and
Paulina Watson in the 200 backstroke (2:06.56). The last win for the Rams was in the 400 medley relay, where Martin,
Milly Furneaux, Brunner, and
Theresa Mullen grabbed the top spot in 3:54.19.
On the men's side, the Rams did not have an individual, but had several second place finishes, led by
Joseph Vizza, whoe took second in the 100 (47.56) and 200 (1:44.02) freestyle events, while
Bryce Bollesen was second in the 50 freestyle in 21.74 seconds, and
Nathaniel Guenther in the 200 breaststroke.

Newcomers
Connor Wright,
Spencer Clarke, and
Diego Perez each had a second place finish respectively. Wright took second in the 200 backstroke (1:56.06) with Clarke finishing second in the 200 IM (1:57.00). Perez was second on the one-meter board with a score of 208.73 points.
In the relays, the 400 medley relay of
Auston Ramsay,
Travis Monahan,
Casey Sawyer, and Vizza clocked in second in 3:31.10, with the 400 freestyle relay crew of Monahan, Ramsay, Clarke, and Bollesen, taking second in 3:11.67.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Friday, October 26
th, when the Rams host Boston University & the Brown University women, at 6:00 PM.
