Amherst, Mass – (January 27, 2018) – In the Rams' final meet prior to the Atlantic 10 Championship, Fordham traveled up to Amherst earning a split against UMass with the Rams earning a 171.5-128.5 win on the women's side, while the men fell to UMass, 211-87.
In the women's competition, Fordham came away with nine overall wins, taking seven individual events and both relay events. Freshman
Michelle Martin led the way for Fordham, earning individual wins in both the 100 backstroke (58.64) and 100 butterfly (57.23), while also joining
Gabrielle Celia,
Tara Brunner, and
Samantha McDonald to win the 200 medley relay in 1:47.37.
Other individual winners on Saturday included
Caitlin McNary in the 200 freestyle (1:53.60),
Hannah McGee in the 200 butterfly (2:06.49),
Catherine Alabanza in the 200 backstroke (2:06.15),
Nele Albers in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.63), and
Erin McBride in the 500 freestyle (5:07.80).
The final women's win for Fordham was in the 200 freestyle relay where Brunner, McDonald, McNary, and
Theresa Mullen took first in 1:36.43.
The Fordham men had a rough go on Saturday, picking up just two event wins.
Joe Mercurio was the lone individual winner, placing first in the 100 butterfly in 49.16 seconds, while taking second in the 50 freestyle in 20.91 seconds. Mercurio was also a part of the Rams' other win in the 200 freestyle relay, where he,
Travis Monahan,
Bryce Bollesen, and
Joseph Vizza had the top time in 1:24.13.

Other top performances for the men had Vizza record a pair of second place finishes in the 100 (46.35) and 200 (1:43.40) freestyle events with Monahan taking second in the 100 breaststroke (58.82).
Danny McGowan and
Christopher Craig also had second place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (10:00.19) and one meter dive (246.67), respectively.
The Rams also were second in the 200 medley relay, as
Auston Ramsay, Monahan, Mercurio, and Vizza, posted a time of 1:33.03.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will now go into prep mode for the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held February 14-18 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
