Hamden, Conn. – Members of the Fordham University men's tennis squad opened their 2017 fall season this weekend by participating at the Quinnipiac Invitational, where
Finn Kemper advanced to the B singles quarterfinals and Kemper and
Jeremy Chung advanced to the semifinals of the A doubles flight.
Chung and Kemper started A doubles play with a 6-3 win over Quinnipiac's Axel Stern and Kyle Alper in the quarterfinals before falling to Fairfield's Anthony Caputo and Tyler Shibles 6-4 in the semifinals. Also competing in A doubles were
Max Green and
Allen Thornes who fell to Quinnipiac's Freddie Zaretsky and Julian Rozenstein 6-2 in the round of 16.
In B singles, Kemper had two hard fought victories, first over Quinnipiac's Axel Stern 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in the round of 32 and second over UConn's Hank Hill 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 in the round of 16 before falling to Marist's Jan Dermic 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. Also in B singles, Wesleyan's Marcus Sweeney defeated
Alex Makatsaria 6-4, 7-6 (9) in the round of 16.
In A singles, Green defeated Fairfield's Ethan Ammon 6-4, 6-4 before falling to Wesleyan's Andrew Finkleman 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16. Also in A singles,
Allen Thornes defeated Wesleyan's Joachim Samson 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) before dropping his round of 16 match to Fairfield's Jeff Rodgers 6-2, 6-0. Quinnipiac's Kyle Alper defeated Chung 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 32.
