Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University football Rams open their 2017 season, the 117th varsity season at Rose Hill, by traveling to West Point, N.Y., to face the Army West Point Black Knights in Michie Stadium on Friday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m.

The game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network with Ben Holden (p-b-p), Jay Feely (color) and John Schriffen (sidelines) announcing  and broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on WFUVsports.org with James Corrigan (p-b-p), Matt Murphy (color) and Tom Terzulli (sidelines) handling the announcing chores.

Fordham enters the game off an 8-3 campaign last fall, 5-1 in the Patriot League, while Army West Point went 8-5 in 2016, including a 21-17 win over Navy and a 38-31 overtime victory over North Texas in the Zaxby's Heart of Texas Dallas Bowl.

This will be the sixth meeting between Fordham and Army West Point on the gridiron.  The Black Knights lead the all-time series, which started in 1891, 4-1, but Fordham won the last meeting, 37-35, in Michie Stadium in the 2015 season opener as Kevin Anderson completed 15 of 23 passes for 322 yards and rushed for a score while Chase Edmonds carried 20 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns.

A few notes on the game:

The Fordham University Rams are 49-30 all-time in season openers since 1920, 10-18 since moving to the NCAA FCS in 1989.  Last year's season-opening loss at Navy snapped a four-game winning streak in season openers for the Rams.

The Fordham captains for 2017 will be Manny Adeyeye, Kevin Anderson, Chase Edmonds, and Caleb Ham.

Chase Edmonds

Senior running back Chase Edmonds became the school's all-time leading rusher last year and enters the 2017 season with 5,285 career rushing yards. The 5,285 career yards places Edmonds second on the Patriot League career rushing list, 336 yards behind Jordan Scott's record of 5,621 yards.

Senior quarterback Kevin Anderson threw for 3,183 yards last year, the fourth best single season in school history, in his first year as a starter. His 2,397 passing yards so far in 2016 brings his career mark to 5,580, fifth best in school history. Anderson also threw 32 scoring strikes last year, the second best single season in Fordham history, and now has 57 for his career, third best all-time at Fordham.

The scout team players of the week were announced following practice on Thursday:  Jalen Ollie (offense for defense), Sawyer Schwarz (defense for the offense) and Clayton Welsh (special teams).

No New York area football team has won more games since 2012 than Fordham, who has amassed 46 victories over that stretch. The closest collegiate competitors are Sacred Heart (33) and Rutgers (29), while the NFL's Giants and Jets have 39 and 33 wins, respectively, each.

With his 182 rushing yards in the Georgetown game, junior running back Chase Edmonds became the school's all-time leading rusher. He currently has 5,104 career rushing yards, second best in the history of the Patriot League. Edmonds broke the former career mark of 4,417 yards set by Kirwin Watson from 2000-03. Edmonds also owns the Fordham and Patriot League career touchdown (66) and career rushing touchdown (59) records.

The last time Fordham and Army West Point met on the gridiron, the Rams' starting lineup consisted of 18 players who were making their first collegiate start. The Rams entered the 2015 season opener at Army West Point without a quarterback on the roster who had attempted a pass in a college game (the lone player to have attempted a pass in a college game was punter Joe Pavlik, who threw a touchdown pass to Marc DeSisto in the 2014 Army game). This year, Fordham returns eight starters on offense and six on defense.
