Gabby Luety Named Assistant Softball Coach at Fordham

Former volunteer assistant coach earns promotion


Bronx, N.Y. - Former Fordham softball standout Gabby Luety, who served as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater last year, has been promoted to assistant coach it was announced today by head softball coach Bridget Orchard.

"We are excited that Gabby has been promoted to assistant coach," Head Coach Bridget Orchard said. "Her knowledge, passion and love for both the game and Fordham University will greatly benefit us going forward. Gabby knows our culture and what it takes to win championships."
 
Last year as a volunteer assistant, Luety help Fordham to its fourth straight Atlantic 10 title, and sixth NCAA Championship appearance in the past seven years, as the Rams went 39-21 overall, 18-4 in the conference

Luety was a four-year starter at catcher from 2011-14 and helped the Rams to three Atlantic 10 titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances. She was voted First Team All-Atlantic 10 as a senior, Second Team All-Atlantic 10 as a junior and Atlantic 10 All-Rookie as a freshman. She was also selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team as a senior and to the NFCA All-Region First Team as a junior.

The Cortland, N.Y. native constructed a very successful career at Fordham. In program history, the former captain ranks first in walks (114), third in home runs (43), fourth in RBI (147), fifth in total bases (337) and games (232) and eleventh in hits (179).

A strong student, Luety was also a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner Honor Roll, which is awarded to student-athletes who earn at least a 3.5 grade point average. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology in 2014.
