The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the Scholar All-America Teams following the conclusion of the Spring semester. Once again, Fordham was honored with both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams, receiving Scholar All-American Team status. This was aready the 13th consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team, as the two squads were honored back in January for the Fall semester.
Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the criteria for the Scholar All-American Team award is given to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season. A grand total of 658 swimming & diving teams, representing 388 schools, were honored this year, marking just the second time that the total has reached the 600 mark.
The Fordham men's team had a GPA of 3.24, , while the Fordham women's team posted a 3.42 team GPA.
Fordham joined Davidson, George Washington, and St. Bonaventure as the only Atlantic 10 schools to have both teams honored. The women's teams from Richmond, Duquesne, George Mason, La Salle, Saint Louis, and Rhode Island were the other Atlantic 10 teams listed.
"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted it," said head coach
Steve Potsklan. "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."
