Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham University women's tennis squad battled Duquesne University down to the wire on Saturday before falling to the Dukes, 4-3, at Saint Joseph's University.
 
The match opened with Duquesne winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches. The Rams won the first completed doubles match as Alexis Zobeideh and Destiny Grunin defeated Ally Miller and Zuzanna Stelmaszak at second doubles, 6-4, but Hannah Drayton and Gianna Insogna then fell to Alexa Miller and Megan Wasson at third doubles, 6-3. Estelle Wong and Mayu Sato took Duquesne's Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman to a tiebreraker at first singles before falling to the Dukes duo, 7-6 (3).
 
Singles play opened with Wong falling to Isaacs at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, before Insogna got the Rams on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stelmaszak at the sixth position. Sato was then upended by Herman at second singles, taking the first set 6-4, but dropping the second, 6-2 and the third, 6-1.
 
Zobeideh pulled Fordham within one, 3-2, when she was victorious over Wasson at the fourth spot, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, and Grunin tied the match at three when she took down Ally Miller at fifth singles, 7-6 (4), 6-1.
 
The match came down to third singles where Drayton dropped the first set to Alexa Miller, 6-4, but came back to win the second by the same score. But Drayton couldn't take the third set, falling 6-2.
 
The Rams return to action on Sunday, April 10, as they host Saint Joseph's University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 12:00 p.m.
