Marist Box Score | Wagner Box Score | Season Stats

Harrison, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis split two shortened (4+1) matches on Sunday afternoon and evening: a 1-4 loss against Marist and a 3-2 victory over Wagner. With the results, the Rams move to 4-4 on the year and the victory snaps a streak of four losses after the Rams began the season 3-0.

Junior transfer Tomas Cosmai, in #1 singles, was the lone win for the Rams in the afternoon match against the Red Foxes, with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over opponent Rudolf Kurz. Victor Li fell to Fredrik Bjerke despite taking the first set, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Joseph Kavaloski lost to Jan Dernic, 6-1, 6-4, and Cameron Posillico dropped a match to Dylan Fletcher, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Nick Borak and Pedro Alonso teamed up for the first time this season but dropped a tough three-set decision to Justin Chanthalangsy and Paulo Siracusa, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Fordham carried its tough play into the evening's meeting against the Seahawks. In thrilling fashion, the Rams came from behind down 2-0 to take the event, 3-2, with three straight singles victories.

Kavaloski and Posillico teamed up for the second time on the year in doubles action but dropped a 6-1, 6-3, decision to Charlton Boyd and Allen Wang. Wagner took a brief but solid 2-0 lead with Ilya Kneppelhout's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pedro Alonso in #3 singles.

With the Seahawks a win away, freshman Li kick started a Rams comeback with his 6-1, 6-3 win over Dale Sandy in #2 singles. Next, Cosmai made it two for two on the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win over #1 singles equal Lucas Lu. The match came down to #4 singles between Borak and Eric Poland. The senior from Brooklyn took set one, 6-4, but Poland answered in the second frame with the same line. Down 4-1 in the final set, Borak won five straight games to clinch the match for Fordham. The win gets Borak back to even on the season, at 4-4, in singles action.

"Today was our strongest performance of the year," head coach Mike Sowter said after the two matches, "Marist is a very deep squad that has been to the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight years and we played them close. We're starting to show a consistent effort every time we step on the court; we're playing much better in those close situations.

Congratulations to Tomas [Cosmai] on his back-to-back wins and to Nick [Borak] for fighting back from 4-1 down in the third set to clinch the match for us against Wagner," Sowter added, "Today was a really solid team effort."

The Rams are back in Harrison again next weekend for Atlantic 10 action. Fordham will host Saint Louis next Sunday evening, March 6, at 8 p.m. inside Life Time Athletic. It'll be the last time the Rams play in Harrison as they move back out to the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts on campus on March 19th against Drew.
