Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham swimming & diving teams were right back in action on Saturday, after its dual meet with Monmouth and Fairfield. The Rams hosted Boston University on Saturday at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, falling to the Terriers, 167-133 in the women's competition and 165-134 on the men's side.
The losses puts Fordham's record at 3-1 for both teams.
The Rams won five events in the women's competition, led by junior diver
Wendy Espina-Esquivel, who captured both diving events with a school record score of 308.92 on the one meter board, while posting 295.57 on the three-meter board. She set the previous record of 288.52 last season.
Freshman
Amelia Bullock was also a multi-event winner on Saturday, taking first in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.46 as well as in the 100 butterfly in 56.07 seconds.
The final women's event winner was the 200 medley relay of
Morgan Fairclough,
Gabrielle Celia, Bullock, and
Tara Brunner in 1:46.67.
On the men's side, the Rams had five individual wins, while taking both relay events. Freshman
Joseph Vizza had a big day with three event wins on the afternoon in the 200 freestyle (1:40.25), 50 freestyle (21.75), and the 100 freestyle (46.90).
Tommy Christensen and
Isiah Magsino rounded out the individual winners for the Rams, as Christensen took the 100 butterfly in 52.29 seconds with Maginso winning the 100 backstroke in 51.92 seconds.
In relay action, the 200 medley relay of
Miguel Mattox,
Sean Finlay,
Joe Mercurio, and
Travis Monahan won their event in 1:33.87, while the 400 freestyle relay of
Liam Semple, Monahan, Mercurio, and Vizza placed first in 3:06.88.
The Fordham swimming & diving team will next be in action on November 11-12 at the Princeton Invitational.
