Max Roberts was named to the 2016 STATS FCS Freshman Player of the Year Watch List it was announced today. He is one 17 players named to the list, the lone representative from the Patriot League.
A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on the FCS freshman player of the year following the regular season. True and redshirt freshmen are eligible for the award
In his first seven collegiate games, Roberts has recorded 33 total tackles, 24 solo, including 7.0 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He leads the Rams in sacks and is second on the squad in tackles for loss. Roberts also has a team-best nine quarterback hurries along with three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
In a 31-17 Homecoming win over Penn on Jack Coffey Field on September 24, Roberts recorded ten total tackles, five solo, including three sacks. He also forced two fumbles, both of which were recovered by the Rams, and he had two quarterback hurries as he was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
The Rams (5-2, 2-0) return to action on Saturday, October 29, as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in a Patriot League contest in Goodman Stadium at 12:30 p.m.
