Squash Breaks Shutout Streak on UK Tour

Freshman Will Pantle Earns First Match Win on the UK Tour

The Fordham squash team continued a unique experience on Wednesday, as the Rams continued their seven-day stay in the United Kingdom, where Fordham will play exhibition matches against a variety of club teams in the U.K.

Throughout their trip, the Rams will be giving their own updates on the trip.

On day four, Fordham played the LakesideSquash Club at the Wimbledon Club, falling by a 8-1 score, marking the Rams' first team point of the trip.

Freshman Will Pantle, who earned that first point for the Maroon & White, recounts day four ok the UK Tour.

"We started the day picking up the guys at the Winchester after a brutal match the night before, with two of our guys losing in five games, feeling sore and ready to try to get a win in London.

We left the club and headed north for London hoping to finally get a win after leaving the deadly gauntlet of clubs on the South coast of England. We headed for the The Wimbledon Club, which is across the street from The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet club, the home of Wimbledon, and a fun fact is that the Wimbledon Club is actually benefits greatly from the tennis tournament due to their offering of their parking space for visitors of the tournament.14351

We arrived and decided to enter London. The team took the Tube into London to see Churchill's War Room, Trafalgar Square, where many celebrations and parades are held and other famous attractions around London. When we walked out of the Tube Station, Big Ben was right in front of our eyes and we were astonished and amazed. We saw the Red Coats, some of the Queen's Royal Cavalry and took some shaky pictures next to the horses. Some of the guys decided to enter Churchill's Bunker and some of the other guys headed around the area to look around and explore the vast beauty and excellent architecture of London.

We stopped to have some food at this quaint little place called the Westminster Arms. When heading back on the tube to the club, the only person from Great Britain, our coach BP, was the only person having a really hard time paying for the tube ride and much banter was given to him.

When it came down to the squash tonight, there were some close matches with Kincade Webster taking his match to four games eventually falling to his opponent.  Jimmy Shinnick fought a hard battle and took his opponent to five games, but unfortunately wasn't able to get us the win. It was a historic night at the Wimbledon Club, as the Rams got their first win, I won my match in four games. It was a strange match as I won the match, but the only game that I lost, I was shut out (11-0) and it had never happened to me. We lost the team match but for the first time this tour, we lost 8-1 and we could say that the drought was over.

The team had dinner with the guys from the Wimbledon Club where we shared a few laughs and had a really good time. We gave our farewell to the Wimbledon Club as we headed for the next stop on the tour: Oxford."

On day five, Fordham will play the Thame Club in Oxford.
