The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the Scholar All-America Teams for the Fall semester. Once again, Fordham was honored with both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams, receiving Scholar All-American Team status. This is the 13th consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team.
Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the criteria for the Scholar All-American Team award is given to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season. A grand total of 547 swimming & diving teams, representing 354 schools, were honored this year, and over 70% of all Division I swimming and diving teams achieved GPA's of 3.00
The Fordham men's team had a GPA of 3.28, ranking them tied for 21
st overall out of the 84 teams that qualified.
The Fordham women's team posted a 3.38 team GPA, which put them tied for 46
th overall, making them one of 149 schools honored.
Fordham joined Davidson as the only Atlantic 10 schools to have both teams honored. The women's teams from Richmond, George Washington, Duquesne, La Salle, and Rhode Island were the other Atlantic 10 teams listed. The seven women's teams tied for the fourth-most honorees among Division I conferences, trailing only the Big Ten (12), ACC (10), and SEC (10).
"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted it," said head coach
Steve Potsklan. "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."
