Mayu Sato advances to A Flight finals and both
Hannah Drayton and
Whitney Weisberg won consolation finals.
Sato opened play in the A flight with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 win over Lea Winkler from Drexel and then upended Providence's Alana Prinos in straight sets in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Galina Chernykh of Rhode Island in the finals, 6-2, 6-4.
Drayton opened play in B singles with a 7-6, 7-5 loss to Zaina Zaki from Connecticut, moving her to the consolation bracket where she opened play with an 8-2 win over Sacred Heart's Taylor Gurda. Drayton then knocked off Meghan Zimmer of Fairfield in the semifinals, 8-4, before winning the consolation finals with an 8-5 decision over Drexel's Erin Bowsher.
Weisberg opened play in D singles with a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Drexel's Fiorella Coria before coming back to defeat Courtney Connors from Fairfield in the consolation quarterfinals, 8-2. In the semifinals, Weisberg defeated Sacred Heart's Tori Oates, 8-2, and then took down Claudia Ruiz of Sacred Heart in the finals, 8-3.
Estelle Wong also competed in the A flight singles, falling to Seton Hall's Thandy Kangwa in the first round, 6-0, 6-3, before coming back to defeat Lindsey Post of Sacred Heart in the first round of the consolation draw, 8-4. She was then eliminated by an 8-5 loss to Fairfield's Nicole Aragones.
Alexis Zobeideh competed in the B flight singles for the Rams, defeating Drexel's Erin Bowsher in the opening round, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5, and Summer Walker from Connecticut in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-7, 10-5, before falling to Seton Hall's Julia Keenan in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-4.
Gianna Insgona competed in C singles for Fordham, defeating Karen McKeough of Fairfield in the first round, 6-2, 6-1, before being upended by Drexel's Kendra Bunch in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-1.
Fordham's
Destiny Grunin opened play at C singles with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Shea Flanagan of Connecticut before defeating Sacred Heart's Olivia Podsiebierski in the consolation quarterfinals, 8-5. Grunin's run ended in the consolation semifinals with an 8-3 loss to Brooke Burnside from Providence.
In doubles play, Drayton and Sato fell to Connecticut's Summer Walker and Shea Flanagan, 6-3, in the first round of the A flight while Wong and Zobeideh also fell in the first round of A doubles, dropping a 6-4 decision to Seton Hall's Thandy Kangwa and Luize Strike.
In B doubles, Grunin and Insgona took the opening round from Brooke Burnside and Katherine DeNucci of Providence, 6-3, but then fell to Providence's Hannah Zangari and Nicole Zytarski in the quarterfinals, 7-5.
The Rams return to action when they compete at the Army West Point Invitational from September 25-27 in West Point, N.Y.
