Box Score New Haven, Conn. (March 14, 2015) – The Fordham University men's tennis team traveled north to face Sacred Heart University at Yale University on Saturday and were shut out by the Pioneers, 7-0.
The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point, losing all three doubles matches. Sacred Heart's Matt Dean and Brian Power defeated
Max Peara and
Pol Giraldez at first doubles, 8-7, while Mathieu Pilote-Schra and Justin Pagan upended Fordham's
Pedro Alonzo and
Joseph Kavaloski, 8-6, at second doubles and Francisco Del Valle and Karan Narula bested Fordham's
J.J. Tauil and
Joey Brander, 8-4, at the third position.
In singles play, two flights went to a tiebreaker but the Pioneers were able to win both. Pilote-Schra (SHU) took the first set at second singles from Giraldez, 6-4, but Giraldez took the second, 6-4 before dropping the tiebreaker, 10-5.
At third singles, Dean won the first set from Peara, 6-3, before Peara fought back for a 6-4 win in the second set but then dropped the tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Rams return to action on Sunday, March 15, as they travel to Teaneck, N.J., to face FDU.
