Football Travels to Columbia for Liberty Cup Game on Saturday

#18/19 Rams look to retain the cup for fifth straight year

Bronx, N.Y. (September 18, 2014) -  The Fordham University football Rams will travel into Manhattan to take on the Columbia University Lions at the Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium at Baker Athletics Complex in the annual Liberty Cup battle on Saturday, September 20, at 12:30 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network (fee required). The game can also be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on WFUV.org with DJ Sixsmith (p-b-p) and Kenny Ducey (color) handling the announcing chores and Kelly Kultys on the sidelines.
 
#18/19 Fordham enters the game after a 54-7 win over the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field last Saturday. Columbia enters its season opener after going 0-10 in 2013.
 
A few notes on the game:
 
Joining captains Stephen Hodge, Dan Light and Ian Williams will be Fordham game captains Matt Stolte (offense), Nick Merino (defense) and Joseph Pavlik (special teams)
 
The scout team players of the week were announced following practice: Conor Cassidy (offense), Brett Lambert (defense) and Roddy Roche (special teams)
 
This will be the 23rd meeting between Fordham and Columbia on the gridiron with the Lions leading the all-time series, which started in 1890, 12-10
 
Fordham has taken the past four meetings, including a 52-7 win on Jack Coffey Field last year as Carlton Koonce rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Nebrich completed 32 of 38 passes for 347 yards and three scores
 
Fordham leads the all-time Liberty Cup series, 8-4
 
Fordham has won the past four meetings with Ivy League schools over the past two years
 
With his 22-carry, 231-yard, four touchdown performance against Rhode Island last week, freshman running back Chase Edmonds set a Fordham freshman single game rushing record. He broke the school freshman rushing record of Darren Wallace, who gained 198 yards against Brown in 1990. Edmonds was named the Sports Network, Patriot League and ECAC Rookie of the Week as well as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and was the recipient of the Rockin' Refuel Performance of the Week award
