Bronx, N.Y. (August 9, 2014) – The first two-a-day practice is over and the Fordham University football squad has the first scrimmage of camp tomorrow so it's time to start the position-by-position breakdown of the 2014 Rams, starting with the quarterbacks.

Mike Nebrich
To say Mike Nebrich had a good year last year is akin to saying the Grand Canyon is a big hole in the ground. Nebrich not only demolished school passing records he also ranked among the NCAA FCS leaders in most passing categories.

Nebrich enjoyed one of the best regular seasons for a quarterback in school history in 2013, completing 353-of-480 passes (73.5%) for 4,380 yards with 35 touchdowns, and also rushed for 513 yards and nine scores. His completion percentage led the nation as did his total offense (376.4 yards/game) while he also ranked in the top five nationally in passing yards per game (336.9 - third), passing efficiency (171.3 - second), completions per game (27.15 - third), and points responsible for per contest (20.5 – third). He went 11-0 as the starting quarterback during the regular season in 2013, one of only two FCS signal-callers to put up an undefeated mark for the season. He set every school single season passing record last fall, eclipsing John Skelton's 2009 record of 284 completions for 3,708 yards and Mark Carney's 2001 mark of 27 passing touchdowns. Nebrich also set a Fordham record with 524 passing yards in a win against Holy Cross on Nov. 2.

Last year's success hasn't gone unnoticed as Nebrich has been placed on every preseason All-America team, has been named the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and has been nominated for the 2014 Walter Payton Award, presented to the top offensive player in the NCAA FCS.

Nebrich isn't the only quarterback on the roster as he is joined by seniors Peter Maetzold and Nick Glogau and sophomore transfer Kevin Anderson.

Peter Maetzold
Last year, Maetzold stepped in for an injured Nebrich in the Bucknell game and led the Rams to the win,  completing 21 of 35 passes for 317 yards and one touchdown while also rushing six times for 12 net yards. The following week, Maetzold completed 22 of 39 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns at Lafayette.

Glogau, who has appeared in the Colgate game last year, is the consummate team player, running the defensive scout team. He was rewarded for his dedication last year by being named the Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year at the team banquet.

Anderson, a transfer from Marshall, brings a powerful arm to Rose Hill. A graduate of Boca Raton High School in Boca Raton, Florida, he completed 40-of-81 passes for 509 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions as a senior in 2012 before suffering a season-ending injury. As a junior, he connected on 123 of 254 passes for 1,712 yards and 11 touchdowns and carried 59 times for 107 yards and three scores.

Practice Notes
  • Head coach Joe Moorhead unveiled a new prop at practice, a maroon pick ax. It represents the "three more feet" theme for the season as he took a page from a book by Napoleon Hill that tells the story of prospector R. U. Harby who was doing well until his supply of gold seemed to stop. He decided to quit the gold mining business and sold all of his equipment to a junkman. The perceptive junkman hired a mining engineer who found a vein of gold just three feet under where Harby was mining and the junkman went on to make millions.
  • Head athletic trainer Vinny Porricelli celebrated a birthday today.
  • Former Ram Mike Andrews spoke with the team following practice about the Fordham Football Mentoring Program.
