Elise Fortier Named ECAC Softball Player of the Year

2014 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Takes Home Another Major Award

ECAC Release

BRONX, N.Y.- Following a spectacular season that saw her team secure its third Atlantic 10 title in the past four seasons, Elise Fortier has been named the ECAC Division I Softball Player of the Year, it was announced today.

Fortier, a native of Coventry, R.I., put together one of the finest individual seasons in Fordham softball history in 2014, leading the team in nearly every major offensive statistical category.  She batted .389 on the year, tallying 20 home runs, 13 doubles, 73 RBIs, 61 hits and 35 walks.  The senior shortstop reached base at a .495 clip and slugged an unreal .854.

Fortier etched her named in the Fordham record book on multiple occasions this past spring.  Her 20 long balls tied her own school and conference records, while her 73 runs batted in and .854 slugging percentage both shattered the previous single season records at Rose Hill.  With a home run in her final collegiate game against South Carolina, Fortier surpassed Jocelyn Dearborn for first place on the Fordham career home run list with 46, even more impressive considering Fortier played at Fordham for just three seasons.

The Coventry High School product ranked in the top ten nationally in three categories as a senior, finishing third in runs batted in per game, sixth in home runs and eighth in slugging percentage.

Blasting 20 home runs in each of the past two seasons, Fortier is the only player in the nation to accomplish such a feat.

Fortier is the second player in Fordham history to receive this award, as Dearborn was named the ECAC Player of the Year as a senior in 2011.
