BRONX, N.Y.- For their outstanding play last week against some of the best competition that the nation has to offer, Fordham's Elise Fortier and Cora Ianiro were named to the NCAA Tallahassee All-Regional Team.
Â
The squad was selected by a group of coaches, sports information directors and administrators in attendance at the regional.
Â
Fortier cemented her role as one of the all-time greats in Fordham Softball history in the Sunshine State, going 1-3 with a double against top-seeded Florida State on Friday before going 2-3 with a homer and three runs batted in against South Carolina in an elimination game on Saturday. With her game-tying round tripper against the Gamecocks, Fortier broke the Fordham career home run record of 45, formerly held by Jocelyn Dearborn. Accomplishing the feat in just three years, Fortier is the only player in the nation to hit 20 home runs in each of the past two seasons.
Â
Ianiro, a junior from West Orange, N.J., also picked up a hit against the top-seeded Seminoles before knocking another hit and scoring a run against South Carolina on Saturday. Ianiro hit .400 for the weekend, capping a stellar first season as a mainstay in the Fordham lineup.
