Michele Daubman (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and junior infielder
Kayla Lombardo (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) were named First Team Capital One Academic All-District, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom it was announced today. They will now be placed on the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America
® consideration. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
This marks the second straight year that Daubman has earned Academic All-District honors and is the first for Lombardo. The duo become the third and fourth Fordham student-athletes to earn Academic All-District accolades this season, joining football's Brett Biestek (a 2013 First Team Academic All-America®) and women's basketball's Abigail Corning.
Daubman, the Rams' top pitcher in 2014, sports a 15-9 record with a 2.49 ERA, 14 complete games and five shutouts, ranking second in the Atlantic 10 in wins and ERA. In 135.2 innings, she has struck out 63 while walking only 22. In Atlantic 10 play she is even more dominant with a 5-1 record and a 0.81 ERA with five complete games and two shutouts. Daubman, who was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week three times in 2014, is holding conference opponents to a .196 batting average with just 31 hits allowed in 43 innings of work.
At the plate Daubman, a marketing major with a perfect 4.00 GPA, has 12 doubles, five home runs and 23 RBI.
Lombardo, a communication and media studies major with a minor in English who has a 3.77 GPA, is hitting .314 (43-137) on the year with seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 29 RBI. She is third on the squad on home runs and slugging percentage (.533).
In league action, Lombardo is hitting .350 (14-40) with two doubles, one triple, one home run and eight RBI.
The Rams, who clinched the regular season Atlantic 10 title last weekend, stand at 33-16 overall on the year, 13-1 in the Atlantic 10, and take a 15-game winning streak into their regular season finale, an Atlantic 10 doubleheader at Dayton on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
