Women’s Tennis Upended by Saint Joseph’s on Senior Day

Sarah Ali and Julie Leong pick up singles wins for Rams

Bronx, N.Y. (April 6, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis team hosted Saint Joseph's University for Senior Day on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts and the Hawks ruined the day for the Rams seniors, defeating Fordham, 5-2.
 
Saint Joseph's opened the match winning the doubles points, taking two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali defeated Alex Zachem and Aurora Davis at first doubles, 8-5, but Anika Novacek and Bella Genkina fell at second doubles to Kristina Eisenbrand and Sarah Contrata, 8-2, and Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong were shut out by Devi Jadeja and Lauren Roy, 8-0.
 
In singles action, Ali and Leong picked up wins for the Rams. Ali defeated Eisenbrand at second singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, while Leong dropped the first set at fifth singles to Arianne Polatnick, 5-7, but came back to take the second, 6-0, and the tiebreaker, 13-11.
 
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, April 9, as they travel to Philadelphia to face the Temple University Owls at 3:30 p.m.
