Women’s Tennis Fall at Stony Brook

Sarah Ali wins at second singles for Rams

Stony Brook, N.Y. (April 5, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis team traveled out to Long Island to face Stony Brook University, falling to the Seawolves, 6-1.
 
Stony Brook opened the match winning the doubles points, taking two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong defeated Louise Badoche and Adey Osabuohien at second doubles, 8-6, but Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali were edged by Polina Movchan and Jackie AltanSarnai at first doubles, 8-7, and Bella Genkina and Anika Novacek were upended at third doubles by Nadia Smergut and Becky Shtilkind, 8-4.
 
Ali picked up a point for the Rams at second singles, defeating AltanSarnai in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, but Fordham couldn't score another point in the loss. Ball came close at first singles, winning the first set over Movchan, 7-6, but Movchan took the second set, 6-2, and the tiebreaker, 10-8.
 
The Rams return to action on Sunday, April 6, as they host the Saint Joseph's University Hawks on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 12:00 p.m.
