The Fordham University men's tennis team had a busy day on Friday, playing a pair of matches in the Washington, D.C., area, falling to both George Washington, 5-1, and George Mason, 4-0.

In the second match of the day at George Mason, the Rams opened play dropping the doubles point. Alastair Barnes and Mischa Koran took second doubles for the Rams with an 8-6 win over Tanner Blaine and Taylor Sargent but Matty Najfeld and Kuba Kowalski fell at first doubles to Joe Hill and James Lange, 8-6, and Max Peara and J.J. Tauil were upended at the third position by Christopher Borden and Jimmy Davis, 8-1.

Fordham then lost the match by falling in all three completed singles matches. The Rams were leading in the other three singles matches as Najfeld took the first set from Hill, 6-4, at first singles and was trailing 4-3 in the second, while Barnes also took the first set at second singles from Davis, 6-4, and was behind 5-3 in the second and Peara was victorious in the first set of fifth singles over Barker, 6-4, and was down 5-4 in the second when play was halted.

In the loss to the 53rd-ranked Colonials of George Washington, the two teams decided against playing doubles after the home team won five of the six singles matches. The Fordham point came at sixth singles where Mischa Koran took the first set from Ulrik Thomsen, 6-1, before dropping the second, 6-2. But Koran came back to win the third, 6-1, for the point.

Najfeld battled at first singles against Francisco Dias, losing the first set, 6-3, before forcing the second set to a tiebreaker which he lost, 7-6 (7-2).

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, April 5, as they stop in Philadelphia on their way back to the Bronx for a 1:00 p.m. match.
