Box Score 2 Elise Fortier led the Rams with a pair of home runs and eight RBI on the day, helping the Rams clinch the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Title with a doubleheader sweep of La Salle.
With the wins, the Rams have won 15 in a row and 21 of their last 22.
Game One Kayla Lombardo led the Rams in game number one, going 2-3 with a grand slam.
Amy Van Hoven also registered a multi-hit effort for the Rams, finishing 2-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Senior
Gabby Luety also went yard, hitting a three-run shot in the third.
The Rams struck first in the top of the second, grabbing two runs to take the early lead. Lombardo started it off with a no-out single to center before
Michele Daubman walked a few batters later. After
Paige Ortiz moved over the runners with a ground out to first, an error on the second baseman allowed both runners to score and the Rams to grab an early advantage.
La Salle responded right away in the bottom of the frame, as Alicia Aughton hit a two-run rocket over the centerfield fence, tying the contest.
Sydney Canessa and
Amy Van Hoven led off the top of the third with consecutive singles, but two straight outs kept the runners in place. Luckily, that was no issue for Luety, as the senior blasted the 41
st home run of her career and made it 5-2 Rams.
The Rams hung up another crooked number in the bottom of the fourth, as a Lombardo grand slam highlighted a five-run frame to put the Rams up 10-2 after three and a half.
Fordham added another insurance run in the top of the fifth and sealed the victory by the run rule.
Game Two Rachel Gillen picked up the win and
Elise Fortier put on a hitting display as the Rams took game two, 8-2, from La Salle.
The Rams drew first blood once again in the second inning, as
Michele Daubman ripped an RBI single down the left field line to take the early lead.
After Gillen put the Explorers down with ease in the bottom of the second, the Fordham offense exploded in the top of the third.
Cora Ianiro led off the frame with a bunt single before Canessa walked. Van Hoven then loaded the bases with a single to left, setting the table for
Elise Fortier. Fortier brought them all home with a shot over the centerfield wall, Fordham's second grand slam of the day, to give the Rams a 5-0 lead. The grand slam also gave Fortier the Fordham single-season RBI record, as her 61
st of the year propelled her past Beckah Wiggins, who registered 60 in 2010.
The Rams threatened in the top of the fourth, but ended up leaving three runners on base, entering the bottom of the fourth with a five-run lead.
The Explorers finally got on board in the fifth, plating a pair of runs, but the Rams answered right back in the sixth. Gillen doubled to left center and Ianiro reached on an error by the second baseman, eventually giving Fortier two runners on base. After working the count, Fortier hit a ball that got out in a hurry, clearing the fence in left by at least a 100 feet and putting the Rams up 8-2.
Patti Maloney closed out the game with her fourth save of the season.
