Photo Gallery Cincinnati, Ohio (April 25, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded VCU at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships at the Queen City Racquet Club. The first two of Friday's quarterfinals were moved indoors following rainy weather in the area.
Fordham, seeded eight, opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing both completed doubles matches.
Hanna Fritzinger and
Bella Genkina fell to Ludivine Burguiere and Sitilia Rencheli, 8-1, at third doubles, and
Julie Leong and
Angelika Dabu were upended by Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Terteac at second doubles, 8-2.
VCU then won the first three completed singles matches for the win. Burguiere defeated
Julie Leong, 6-0, 6-2, at fifth single sin the first completed match and then Olga Barscheuskaya bested Genkina at the fourth position, 6-2, 6-1. Daria Yakauleva then clinched the match for VCU with a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Sarah Ali at second singles.
Dabu dropped the first set at third singles to Kvitashvili, 6-3, but won the second, 6-3, and was ahead in the third, 1-0, when play was halted while
Destiny Grunin took the first set from Terteac at sixth singles, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-3, as play was stopped.
