Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (April 16, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis team ventured up the Hudson to Marist College on Wednesday and continued to play well, winning their third straight match with a 6-1 win over the Red Foxes at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches.
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball teamed up to defeat Karlene Pang and Callie Morlock at first doubles, 8-4, while
Angelika Dabu and
Julie Leong were victorious over Kaye Eastman and Melissa Carlay at second doubles, 8-6.
Destiny Grunin and
Anika Novacek completed the sweep for the Rams with a 9-7 win over Katherine Seitz and Marielle Campbell at the third spot.
The Rams then won five of the six singles matches, three in straight sets. Ali defeated Campbell at second singles, 6-2, 7-5, Dabu upended Carlay at the third position, 6-1, 6-3, and
Bella Genkina bested Nicole Rohan at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The other two singles winners for the Rams were Leong, who dropped the first set to Lisa Ventimiglia at fourth singles, 6-3, but came back to win the second and third by identical 6-0 scores, and Grunin, who took the first set at sixth singles from Katherine Seitz, 6-4, but dropped the second 6-3, before winning the tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Rams return to action on Monday, April 21, as they host the New York Institute of Technology on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 2:00 PM.
