With the wins, the Rams have now come out on top in nine straight and 15 of their last 16.
Game One Sydney Canessa belted a game-winning RBI triple with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, lifting Fordham to victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Saint Louis on Thursday afternoon.
A pair of Fordham pitchers combined to hold Saint Louis to just two earned runs in game one, as
Michele Daubman surrendered a pair over five frames and
Patti Maloney pitched two perfect innings and picked up the win in relief.
Canessa tallied two RBIs on the game, as did senior catcher
Gabby Luety, who belted a two-run shot in the fourth.
Saint Louis threatened in the top of the first, placing runners on first and third with just one gone. Daubman worked her way out the jam; however, forcing a groundout to third and striking out Brianna Lore to end the frame.
After the Rams went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first, Daubman worked her way out of another jam in the top of the second, retiring two straight Billikens to keep a runner in scoring position from reaching home.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Rams had a runner on third with two gone, but a deep fly ball from
Paige Ortiz fell just short of a home run and the teams went into the third scoreless.
The Billikens pushed the first run of the game across in the top of the third, as a Lore double off the left field wall scored a runner from first, giving Saint Louis a 1-0 lead.
The Rams answered back in the top of the fourth with one on when
Gabby Luety sat on an off-speed pitch and gave it a ride, launching it over the left field fence and putting the Rams up 2-1. Luety's eighth long ball of the year gave her sole possession of second place on the Fordham career home run list.
The Billikens scored a pair in the top of the fifth to take back the lead, 3-2, but the Rams tied it again in the home half of the inning.
Rachel Gillen started it off by singling and advancing to second on an error by the left fielder to give the Rams a runner in scoring position.
Brianna Ciuffi came into pinch run and advanced to third on an Ianiro ground out before Canessa brought her home with an infield single to deep short.
The teams remained knotted at three until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs in the frame,
Cora Ianiro singled up the middle to extend the inning. Canessa then stepped to the plate and gave a ball a deep ride to right center, finding the gap and sealing the victory with an RBI triple.
Game Two The Rams needed no late inning push to claim victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Louis, as
Lauren Quense and
Rachel Gillen combined to hold the Billikens to just two hits over seven innings of work, as the Rams came out on top 5-0.
Quense started off the game by holding the Billikens to just two hits over three innings before Gillen came in to relieve her and tossed four no-hit frames to pick up her sixth win of the year.
Fordham struck first in the bottom of the second, as
Paige Ortiz brought home a run with an RBI single to center.
The Rams then added on another pair in the bottom of the third, as
Elise Fortier knocked in her 48
th RBI of the season before a wild play scored her later on in the inning.
Fordham's offense continued to click, pushing runs across in the fourth and fifth to extend the lead to 5-0 heading into the sixth.
Gillen closed out the Billikens with ease over the final few frames, clinching the win and making it nine in a row for the Rams.
