Photo Gallery Bronx, N.Y. (April 14, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis won its second straight match today with a 7-0 shutout of Long Island University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches.
Bella Genkina and
Hanna Fritzinger got things started with an 8-4 win over Nancy Zonneveld and Brittany Thompson at third doubles before
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball rallied from a deficit to defeat Sanne Louwers and Lisa Maas at first doubles, 8-6.
Angelika Dabu and
Julie Leong completed the sweep with a 9-7 win at second doubles over Isabella Wagener and Katya Yegoreychenko.
The Rams then swept all six singles matches, four of those in straight sets and one by default.
Julie Leong was the first winner for the Rams, defeating Zonneveld at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3, and then Ali upended Maas at the second position, 6-3, 6-1. Genkina clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Isabella Wagener at fourth singles and Ball, who dropped the first set to Louwers at first singles, 6-4, came back to the win second, 6-1, and the tiebreaker, 10-5.
Destiny Grunin completed the singles sweep with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Thompson at sixth singles. Dabu was the other winner for the Rams, winning by default at third singles.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, April 16, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Marist College at 3:00 PM.
