Women’s Tennis Defeats Rhode Island, 6-1

Fordham wins five of six singles matches

Kingston, R.I. (April 12, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis team has been preparing for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship recently by facing some conference opponents and had success today, defeating the University of Rhode Island, 6-1, on the road.
 
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of three doubles matches. Sarah Ali and Elliesa Ball teamed up to win at first doubles, 8-2, over Kathleen Uy and Nithila Asokaraj and Bella Genkina and Hanna Fritzinger defeated Taylor Holden and Jordan Rucks at third doubles, 8-1.
 
Fordham then won five of the six singles matches, taking second through sixth singles, all in straight sets. Ali bested Holden at second singles, 6-2, 6-1, Genkina took Uy at the third spot, 6-4, 6-4, Angelika Dabu was victorious at fourth singles over Elizaveta Sadovnikov, 6-3, 6-1, Julie Leong upended Asokaraj at the fifth position, 7-5, 6-2, and Destiny Grunin handled Rucks at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Rams return to action on Monday, April 14, as they host LIU on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:30 PM.
