Rams Sweep Doubleheader at URI

Rams Extend Their Winning Streak to Five

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game One

Michele Daubman tossed seven shutout innings in game one of a doubleheader between Fordham and URI, leading the Rams to a 2-0 victory in Kingston, R.I.

Daubman (12-9) surrendered only four hits while striking out two, extending her scoreless inning streak to 18.

Amy Van Hoven and Elise Fortier each drove in runs for Fordham in the victory.

Neither team scored until the fifth inning, when a Van Hoven RBI double gave the Rams a 1-0 advantage.  Later in the inning, Fortier lifted a sac fly to center, scoring Sydney Canessa from first.

With her team in front by a pair of runs, Daubman held the other Rams to just one hit over the final two innings, sealing the victory.

Game Two

Fordham's senior power hitters put on a display in the second game of a doubleheader against Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon, as Elise Fortier and Gabby Luety combined for five RBI and a pair of homers, leading the Rams to a 7-3 victory over URI.

Luety went 3-3 at the dish in game number two, while Fortier went 2-4.

Paige Ortiz and Amy Van Hoven also registered multi-hit games for Fordham, as each went 2-4.

Rachel Gillen picked up the win in the circle, while Patti Maloney notched her third save of the season.

Both teams threatened in the opening innings, but Rhode Island got on the board first with a three spot in the bottom of the third.

Luety responded with a solo jack in the top of the fourth to move Fordham within two before her team exploded in the top of the fifth.  The Rams pushed across five runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI single for Fortier, a sac fly from Kayla Lombardo and an RBI double from Luety.

Fortier added one more for good measure in the top of the seventh, sending a bomb over the left field fence to make it 7-3 in favor of the Rams.

The Rams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, hosting Binghamton in a doubleheader beginning at 4 PM.
