Series Wraps Up Sunday at 1:00 PM

Joseph Runco
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Stony Brook's Frankie Vanderka threw a complete game three-hit shutout, while Brandon McNitt pitched five innings of one-hit ball, as the Seawolves swept a doubleheader from the Fordham Rams, 6-0 and 10-0 (7 innings), at Joe Nathan Field in Stony Brook, N.Y.

The doubleheader sweep puts Fordham's record at 3-5 on the year, while Stony Brook improved to 2-6.

In game one, Stony Brook's Frankie Vanderka continued his dominance over Fordham, tossing a complete game, three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win.  This comes almost one year to the day, that he pitched a no-hitter against the Rams at Houlihan Park.

The Seawolves got on the board quickly, netting a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI-triple by Kevin Courtney and an RBI-single by Kevin Krause.

Stony Brook added two more runs in the fifth, as Courtney delivered again with an RBI-double, while Krause drove in a run on an infield single.

The Seawolves added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings for the 6-0 final score.

Fordham managed just three hits, which came from Tim Swatek, Matthew Cianci and Joseph Runco, and had only one runner, Cianci, reach third.

On the mound, Brett Kennedy (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings of work.  Shane McDonald pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts.

In a seven-inning game for the back half of the doubleheader, three Stony Brook pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout in a 10-0 win.

Stony Brook scored all ten of its runs in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a grand slam home run by Krause that capped the frame.

Fordham was again befuddled by Stony Brook pitching, as starter Brandon McNitt gave up just one hit, a hit to Runco in the third, over five innings of work.  Bryan Tatelman allowed one hit to Jason Lundy in the sixth, while Connor Doyle tossed a hitless inning in the seventh.

J.C. Porter (0-1) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings.   Cody Johnson gave up three earned runs in 0.2 innings with Makay Redd tossing two scoreless innings of relief.

The same two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday with a single game at 1:00 PM.
