Men’s Tennis Blanked by Yale, 7-0

Rams travel to La Salle on Wednesday

New Haven, Conn. (March 30, 2014) – After a 12-day break, the Fordham men's tennis squad returned to action on Sunday, traveling to Yale where the Rams were blanked by the 68th-ranked Eli, 7-0.
 
The match opened with Yale winning the doubles point by taking both completed matches. Matty Najfeld and Mischa Koran fell at first doubles to Tyler Yu and Martin Svenning, 8-6, and the Rams forfeited at third doubles. Kuba Kowalski and Max Peara were down 7-4 to Yale's Pat Chase and Kyle Dawson at second doubles when the match was halted.
 
Yale then swept all six singles matches. Two of the singles matches went to a third set with Najfeld taking the first set from Yu at first singles, 6-3, before dropping the second, 6-3. Yu then won the match with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
At fifth singles, Koran dropped the first set to Zach Kromholz, 6-0, but came back to win the second, 6-2. Koran fought hard in the third set but came up just short as Kromholz pulled out a 7-6 (5) win.
 
Also competing for the Rams were Alastair Barnes, who fell to Daniel Faierman at third singles, 6-4, 6-0, and J.J. Tauil, who lost at the fourth spot to Dawson, 6-0, 7-5. Peara lost at sixth singles to Chase, 6-1, 6-0, while Kowalski withdrew with an injury at second singles.
 
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, April 2, as they travel to Philadelphia to face La Salle University at 3:00 p.m.
