Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. (March 11, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad hosted the Billikens from Saint Louis University today at Stadium Tennis and came up just short, falling to the visitors, 4-3.

The Rams opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Sarah Ali and Elliesa Ball teamed up to win at first doubles over Saint Louis' Stephanie Hollis and Brooke Urzendowski, 8-6, while Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong bested Madison Cook and Madeline Jolly at third doubles, 8-6.

The Rams couldn't capitalize on the doubles momentum in singles action as the Rams picked up only two singles wins, those from Ali and Leong . Ali took second singles from Hollis, 6-1, 6-0, and Leong was victorious over Urzendowski at the fourth position, 6-1, 6-4.

Destiny Grunin almost won the match for the Rams, taking the first set from Maria Toro, 6-4, at fifth singles but then fell in the second and third sets, with each going to a tiebreaker. Grunin fell in the second set, 7-6 (4) and the third, 7-6 (1).

Ball also almost won the match with a win at first singles for the Rams as she dropped the first set to Aspen Cervin, 6-4, but came back to win the second, 6-3. Unfortunately Ball couldn't complete the comeback, falling  6-4 in the third set.

The Rams return to action on Monday, March 17, as the face Hope College in Orlando, Florida, as part of their spring training trip.
