Genkina’s Late Rally Pushes Fordham Past NJIT

Ali and Genkina Both Post Comeback Finishes in 4-3 Win by the Rams

With the match knotted at three all, Fordham's Bella Genkina came back from a set down to NJIT's Hannelae MacDonald to earn the deciding point in a 4-3 win by the Rams in Newark, N.J.
 
With the win, Fordham improves to 3-0 in dual match play, while NJIT moved to 2-2.
 
Fordham opened the match by earning the doubles point.  Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali topped Ksenia Kuzmenko and Jana Luste at first doubles, 7-5, while Genkina and Anika Novacek defeated Nathalie Habegger and MacDonald, 6-3.
 
In singles play, Fordham earned points at the second and fifth slots.  Ali upended Natalia Melibeu, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 at second singles, while Destiny Grunin defeated Carolina Zanotta, 6-3, 6-3.
 
NJIT rallied to tie the match at three all with wins at first, third, and fourth singles, leaving the Genkina/MacDonald match at sixth singles as the deciding point.
 
MacDonald took the first set, 6-3, but Genkina rebounded to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4).  Genkina then won the super tiebreaker, 10-7, to give Fordham the match.
 
The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on Sunday, February 9th, as they travel to Army for a 1:00 PM match.
