Bronx, N.Y. (February 28, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad traveled to the south Bronx to face the University of Massachusetts at Stadium Tennis, falling to the Minutewomen, 5-2.
The Rams opened play by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches.
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball combined to win at first doubles over Arielle Griffin and Yuliana Motyl, 8-5, and
Bella Genkina and
Anika Novacek took third doubles from Aarzoo Malik and Jessica Podlofsky at third doubles, 8-4.
Angelika Dabu and
Julie Leong were leading their opponents at second doubles, Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper, 6-3, when the match was halted.
Massachusetts then won the match by taking five of the six singles matches. Genkina picked up the lone singles win for the Rams, defeating Podlofsky in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
Ball almost won at first singles, dropping the first set to Bokhari, 6-2, before coming back to take the second, 6-4. But Bokhari won the third set, 6-3.
Sarah Ali also had her match at second singles go to a third set, taking the first set from Motyl, 6-2, but losing the second, 6-3, and the third, 6-1.
The Rams return to action on Sunday, March 2, as they travel into Queens to face George Washington University at the National Tennis Center at 4:00 PM.
