Geneva, Ohio (February 22, 2014) – Fordham University wrapped up competition at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the SPIRE Institute where the
Steve Sholdra (1650 free) and
Shintaro Noguchi (200 fly) each placed fifth in a championship final.
St. Bonaventure won the team title with 718 points followed by Massachusetts (624), George Mason (591), La Salle (403), Saint Louis (385), George Washington (366) and Fordham (284).
Steve Sholdra got things started on the final day with a fifth place finish in the 1650 free in a season-best time of 15:42.11 while
Andrew Hendrickson was eleventh in 16:01.04.
Shintaro Noguchi also placed fifth in a championship final, finishing fifth in the 200 butterfly in a season-best time of 1:48.78, just 0.03 seconds behind fourth-place finisher Matt Rochna of St. Bonaventure and 0.13 seconds behind third-place finisher Oliver Keegan of George Washington.
In the 200 fly B finals,
Patrick Militti and
Kevin Kosciuk placed fifth and sixth in 1:51.20 and 1:51.23, respectively, while
Brandon Strong was eighth in 1:53.35.
Ben Dwyer won the B finals in the 200 breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:02.17 while
Zachary Jacobsen was eighth in 2:08.12.
Michael Grimmett-Norris placed seventh in 200 back B finals in a season-best time of 1:53.05 and
Joe Mercurio was seventh in the B final of the 100 free in 46.29.
In the 400 free relay, the Fordham team of Noguchi, Mercurio,
Thomas Shetler and Militti placed sixth in a season-best time of 3:04.01.
The men set two individual school records at the championships:

Shintaro Noguchi - 100 butterfly (48.31)
