Shintaro Noguchi breaks school record, earns All-Atlantic 10 honors, at A-10 Championships

Senior breaks own school mark in 100 fly

Geneva, Ohio (February 21, 2014) – The Fordham University men's swimming and diving team received a boost from Shintaro Noguchi on day three at the 12014 Atlantic 10 men's swimming and diving championships as the senior set a school record and earned All-Atlantic 10 honors at the SPIRE Institute.
 
St. Bonaventure leads the men's team competition with 516 points followed by Massachusetts (432), George Mason (408), La Salle (281), Saint Louis (261), George Washington (246) and Fordham (197).                                      
 
Shintaro Noguchi, who set the Fordham school and A-10 meet record in the 100 fly last year (48.40), tied that mark in the preliminaries and then bettered it with a school record 48.31 in the finals, good for second place and Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. ­
 
Steve Sholdra and Kevin Kosciuk started the night off for the Rams competing in the 400 IM B finals where Sholdra placed third in 3:59.85 and Kosciuk fifth in 4:02.01.
 
In the 100 breaststroke finals, Ben Dwyer placed fifth in 56.78, almost four seconds faster than his top time this year.
 
Joe Mercurio and Patrick Militti raced in the 100 fly B finals with Mercurio taking fifth in 50.20 and Militti finishing seventh in 50.45.
 
In the 100 back B final, Miguel Mattox placed seventh in a season-best time of 52.04.
 
The men's 400 medley relay of Mattox, Dwyer, Militti and Mercurio placed seventh in a season-best time of 3:25.86.
 
The 2014 Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championships will continue with preliminary races on Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 AM.
