Women’s Tennis Defeats Fairfield, 5-2

Rams win four of six singles matches

Stamford, Conn. (February 1, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad opened the 2014 spring season with a 5-2 win over Fairfield University at the Stamford Indoor Courts on Saturday.
 
The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point as Sarah Ali and Elliesa Ball defeated Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn, 6-4, at first doubles and Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong upended Sharissa Ryan and Toru Pirrello by the same score at second doubles.
 
Fordham then took the match by winning four of the six singles matches, taking third through sixth singles. Dabu was victorious at third singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Koladzyn while Leong upended Kaila Nelson at the fourth spot, dropping the first set, 6-4, before coming back to win the second, 6-2 ad the tiebreaker, 10-7. Destiny Grunin won at fifth singles over Pirrello, 6-4, while Bella Genkina took sixth singles from Karen McKeough in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
 
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, February 8, as they travel to Newark, N.J., to face NJIT at 3:00 PM.
