Photo Gallery Bronx, N.Y. (October 12, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad hosted its first dual match of the season today on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts, defeating Adelphi, 5-2.
The Rams opened the match by taking the doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Destiny Grunin and
Carolina Sa got things going with an 8-1 win over Joanna Haich and Isabella Ramjeet at third doubles before
Sarah Ali and Elleisa Ball clinched the point for Fordham with an 8-2 win over Charlotte Moreau and Katarina Barborikova at first doubles.
Julie Leong and
Estelle Wong completed the sweep with an 8-7 (5) win over Stefani Lineva and Rebecca Fakas at the second position.
Fordham clinched the match by taking the first three completed singles matches. Grunin was the first to win for the Rams, taking sixth singles from Ramjeet, 6-1, 6-1, and then Wong defeated Rebecca Fakas at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Bella Genkina clinched the win for Fordham with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Haich at the fourth position.
Ali picked up the other point for the Rams with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Moreau at second singles.
The other two singles matches went to a tiebreaker as Ball dropped the first set to Lineva at first singles, 6-1, but came back to take the second, 6-2, before falling in the tiebreaker, 10-6. Leong also dropped her first set to Barborikova at third singles, 7-5, but forced a tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in the second. But Leong could not complete the comeback, falling in the tiebreaker, 10-3.
The Rams return to action on Friday, October 17, as they begin play at the ITA Regionals in New Haven, Conn.
