West Point, N.Y. (September 29, 2013) – The doubles team of
Anika Novacek and
Bella Genkina won the B doubles title at the 2013 Eastern Championship held at the U.S. Military Academy from September 27-29.

Novacek and Genkina opened play at B doubles with an 8-3 win over Albany's Cat Crummey and Pau Torres in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, the Fordham pair defeated Gabriela Spindler and Maya Parker, 8-3, to advance to the semifinals, where they upended Illinois' Julia Jamieson and Emily Barretta, 8-5. In the finals, Novacek and Genkina faced Stony Brook's Becky Shtilkind and Cassandra Dix, defeating the duo, 8-6 to win the crown.

In other doubles action, the Fordham team of
Angelika Dabu and
Julie Leong won their round of 32 match with Seton Hall's Hannah Liljkevist and Madison Shoemaker, 8-7 (4), before falling to Louise Badoche and Nadia Smergut from Stony Brook, 8-4, in the round of 16.

Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali also teamed up to compete in A doubles, falling in the round of 16 to Seton Hall's Roccio Portela-Berrio and Chloe Sher, 8-7 (3).

Destiny Grunin also teamed with Army's Kelly Daniel in B doubles but fell to Sacred Heart's Maggie Tooley and Mariah Wardius, 8-7 (4) in the first round and then fell to Ariana Launie and Daniella Reyes from Quinnipiac, 8-7 (5) in the back draw.

In singles play, Ball had the most success, winning the back draw of first singles. After falling to Sanne Louwers from LIU, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round, she moved to the back draw where she defeated Katie DeReinzo from Sacred Heart, 8-5, in the quarterfinals, Stony Brook's Jackie Altan Sarni, 8-4, in the semifinals and Connecticut's Srna Stosljevic in the finals, 8-6.

Genkina also advanced in singles action, moving to the semifinals in fourth singles. She opened play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Albany's Mirelle Hermans in the round of 16 and then upended Alexandra Landert from Seton Hall in the quarterfinals by the same score. In the semifinals, Genkina fell to Stony Brook's Lisa Setyon, 6-2, 6-1.

In other first singles action, Ali fell to Seton Hall's Liljkevist in the first round, 6-3, 6-2.

In second singles play, Novacek opened play with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Marielle Campbell from Marist before losing to Illinois' Julia Jamison in the round of 16, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Dabu also competed in second singles, dropping her opening match to Ryan Brown from Bryant, 7-5, 5-7, 10-3.

In third singles, Leong fell to UConn's Shea Flanagan in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-3, while Grunin was victorious over Sacred Heart's Mariah Wardus, 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 32. Grunin then fell to Sydney Young from Quinnipiac, 6-0, 3-6, 10-1, in the round of 16. Leong played a back draw match in third singles, falling to Crummey, 8-4.
