Box Score Looking to build on a 2-1-1 mark in its last four games, the Fordham women's soccer team hosted Princeton on Tuesday night for the final non-league game of the season. Unfortunately for the Rams, Tyler Lussi netted two second half goals for the Tigers, leading Princeton to a 3-1 win at Jack Coffey Field.
The loss puts Fordham's record at 2-5-2, while Princeton improved to 4-1-2.
Fordham had the first scoring chance of the game in the eighth minute, as
Nicol Natale got loose on the left side of the box, going one-on-one with Princeton goalkeeper Cecilia DiCaprio. DiCaprio got the better of Natale, making the first save of the contest.
Princeton then got their offense rolling in the 27
th minute, as Tyler Lussi ripped a shot of the cross bar for the Tigers' first shot of the game. The Tigers then netted the game's first goal in the 30
th minute, as Erika Hoglund scored from seven yards out off an assist from Emily Sura.
The Tigers extended the lead to 2-0 in the second half as Lussi scored her fifth goal of the season. After a long ball forward to Lussi, Fordham's
Mary Solimine tried to fight off Lussi's attack, but the freshman forward picked up the deflected ball and beat Fordham keeper
Megan Fitzgerald on the breakaway.
The Tigers looked primed for another tally on a penalty kick in the 76
th minute, but Fitzgerald came up with the stop on Princeton's Diane Metcalf-Leggette with a diving save to the right side of the goal.
Just two minutes later, Princeton would get its third goal, as Lussi knocked in her second goal of the game off an assist from Lauren Lazo.
Fordham closed the gap to 3-1 in the 82
nd minute, as
Kelsey Dougherty Howard scored her third goal of the season. Dougherty Howard received a pass from
Bryce Debolt and then ripped a shot from 16 yards to the upper 90 for the goal.
The Rams were unable to get closer, as the Tigers picked up their third win of the year against an Atlantic 10 school.
In net,
Ally White and Fitzgerald each played a half with Fitzgerald collecting six saves in the second half. DiCaprio had three for the Tigers.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 29
th, as the Rams begin conference play against Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 1:00 PM.
