Women’s Tennis Blanks Manhattan, 7-0

Bronx, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) - The Fordham University women's tennis squad opened its 2013-2014 dual meet season today with a convincing 7-0 win over Manhattan College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
 
The Rams opened the match by taking the doubles points, winning all three doubles matches. Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali teamed to win at first doubles over Brianna Turano and Gabriella Leon, 8-1, while Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong were victorious over Alyssa Rosello and Salua Pizano at second doubles, 8-3, and Anika Novecek and Bella Genkina blanked Caitlin Bricketto and Catherine Clark at third doubles, 8-0.
 
In singles play, the Rams took all six matches in straight sets. Ball upended Turano at the first position, 7-5, 6-2; Ali defeated Leon at second singles, 6-4, 6-2; Dabu bettered Bricketto in the third spot, 7-5, 6-0, Novacek took fourth singles from Pizano, 6-0, 6-2; Leong lost only one set to Rosello at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Grunin won at the sixth position over Clark, 6-1, 6-1.
 
The Rams return to action as they compete at the Eastern Championships from September 27-29 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
