Day two of the Stony Brook Classic is in the books and the Fordham women's tennis team put together a solid day of action, as Rams are in two finals on Sunday in the "C" singles draw and the "A" doubles draw.
In doubles, Fordham's
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball defeated Rhode Island's duo of Nithila Asokaraj and Kathleen Uy by a score of 8-2. Ali and Ball now advance to the "A" doubles final on Sunday against Army's Jamila Paul and Gabriella Spindler.
In singles play,
Julie Leong advanced to the "C" singles final with a pair of victories on Saturday. First, Leong topped Navy's Rozel Hernandez, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinal. Then, she ousted Stony Brook's Lisa Seyton in the semifinals, 6-4, 7-5. Leong will face Fairleigh Dickinson's Gisela Castany, who defeated Fordham's
Anika Novacek earlier in the draw on day one.
In the "B" singles draw,
Angelika Dabu moved into the semifinals after a win over Fairleigh Dickinson's Masha Krachok, 6-3, 7-6 (5). However, Dabu was forced to retire in her next match against Stony Brook's Cassandra Dix, 6-1, 3-0 (ret.).
In the "D" singles draw,
Bella Genkina also advanced to the semifinals after defeating Alyson Hayley of Army, 6-4, 6-4, but would fall to Stony Brook's Louise Badoche, 6-4, 6-4.
The Stony Brook Classic concludes on Sunday.
