The Fordham University football Rams open their 2013 season by hosting the University of Rhode Island Rams on Jack Coffey Field on Thursday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m.
Â
Fordham will honor our nation's wounded heroes during their game against Rhode Island at Jack Coffey Field on Thursday night. In collaboration with Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Fordham's athletics department has invited local Wounded Warrior Project Alumni to present the game ball and to participate in the pregame coin flip.
Â
"We are extremely honored to be able to host Wounded Warrior Project alumni at the football game on Thursday," said Fordham Director of Athletics Dave Roach. "These men put their lives on the line to protect our country and we cannot thank them enough for their service."
Â
The game will be streamed live on the internet on the at Patriot League Network and on WFUV.org with Mike Watts and Mack Rosenberg handling the announcing chores and Nick Logerfo on the sidelines.
Â
The Rams enter the game after going 6-5 in 2012, while Rhode Island enters the season after going 0-11 last fall.
Â
The Rams will be led into the game by senior running back Carlton Koonce, a 2013 Preseason All-American, who set the school single season rushing record last year with 1,596 yards.
Â
This will be the 12th meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island on the gridiron. Fordham lead the all-time series, 6-5, but Rhode Island won the most recent matchup, 21-17, in Kingston in 2011. Fordham has won three of the past five meetings.
