BRONX, N.Y. -
With the start of the season just a few months away, Fordham volleyball head coach Gini Ullery has announced the addition of one student athlete to the roster for the 2013 season. Kristen Ostach (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk High School) will join the Rams for the upcoming fall campaign.
"We are excited to add Kristen to our Fordham family," Ullery said. "She is a competitor and hard worker and I look forward to seeing her push her teammates to do great things."
Ostach, a 6'0" middle hitter, joins the Rams following a stellar high school career for the Cougars. A three year student athlete who missed her senior campaign due to injury, Ostach led Blackhawk to two Section Titles and helped take the team to the WPIAL Semifinals.
A two-time PIAA WPIAL All-Section First Team All-Star in 2010 and 2011, Ostach was also named All-District Second Team as a junior and All-District Third Team as a sophomore.
Ostach registered a number of school records while at Blackhawk, including the most assisted blocks, solo blocks and total blocks in a season. She also holds the single season school record for kill percentage (.441) and recorded perfect kill percentages and hitting percentages in a single match. In terms of single match records, Ostach also holds the school record for assisted blocks, solo blocks and total blocks.
In addition to her accolades at Blackhawk, Ostach was also selected to play for the Pittsburgh Renaissance Junior Olympic Volleyball Team and qualified to participate in the Junior Olympic National Tournament in Reno, Nev.
The daughter of Carl and Robin Ostach and a member of the National Honor Society, Kristen is set to graduate from Blackhawk with high honors this spring. In addition, Ostach was selected by her senior classmates to receive the Good Character Scholarship Award at Blackhawk.
Ostach has one brother, Cory, who attends Slippery Rock University.
