Men's Tennis Closes Out Home Schedule with win over Quinnipiac

Ben Kelly

Final Stats

April 9, 2013 - Bronx, N.Y. - It was a day of mixed emotion for Fordham men's tennis senior Ben Kelly. Playing in the final home match of his Fordham career, Kelly fell to his Quinnipiac University counterpart. But that didn't prevent Kelly from celebrating the Rams' win as Fordham ended its 2013 home season with a 4-3 win over the Bobcats on the Hawthorn Rooney Courts.

Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Max Peara and J.J. Tauil defeated Alex Lazerowich and Fahoum Fahoum at first doubles, 8-6, while Matty Najfeld and Kuba Kowalski upended Sebastian Barbero and Luke Roser, 8-0, at the second position.

The Rams then took three of the first four completed singles matches for the win. Najfeld was the first winner, beating Fahoum, 6-3, 6-2, at second singles before Fordham's Kuba Kowalski fell to Roser, 6-1, 6-3, at the fourth position.

Michael Puntillo got the Rams back in the win column, dropping the first set to Corey Morgenstern at sixth singles, 3-6, before roaring back to take the second, 6-3, and the third, 6-4. Alla then clinched the win for Fordham with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sebastian Barbero at first singles, Alla's team-leading 18th singles victory of the year.

The match closed with Kelly falling to Garrett Lane, 7-5, 6-1, at the fifth spot and Jan Krouham dropping third singles to Eric Ambrosio, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 13, when they travel to Long Island to face Hofstra University at 2:00 p.m. (note that the NJIT match scheduled for Thursday, April 11, has been cancelled).
