Williamsburg, Va. - (April 6, 2013) - The Fordham track & field squad wrapped up their two-day stay at the Colonial Relays on Saturday, competing primarily in the relays events. By day's end, Fordham posted three ECAC/IC4A qualifying times with the men's team finishing eighth overall and the women's team tying for 16th.
Individually on Saturday, only Keegan Talty, Daniel Chediak, and Courtnay Newman were in action in the men's pole vault and women's high jump competitions. Newman was the best finisher as she tied for 13th in the high jump, clearing 5' 1 1/4", while Talty tied for 18th in the pole vault, clearing 14' 3 1/4", and Chediak tying for 26th at 13' 3 1/2".
In the relays, Fordham scored in three men's relays and three women's relays.
The scoring began with the men's 4x800 relay, as John Cosgrove, Brian Walter, Ryan Polo, and Kevin Fitzgerald placed second in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:37.30. In the women's 4x800 relay, the Rams' group of Melissa Higgins, Kristen Stuart, Mara Lieberman, and Titi Fagade duplicated the feat, taking second in an ECAC qualifying time of 8:57.44.
Fagade, Higgins, and Stuart returned later in the day to join Averie Sheppard for the women's 4x400 relay, where Fordham placed fifth overall in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:50.74.
The Fordham women also scored in the 4x1500 relay, as Christina Vivinetto, Jillian Brooks, Rachel Picard and Emily Osman placed fifth in 19:59.90. The final women's relay of the day was the 4x200 relay, where Nicole Ragucci, Danielle Rowe, Elise Tigani, and Melanie Notarstefano were tenth in 1:47.10.
Back on the men's side, Fordham scored in the 1600 sprint medley relay and the 4x400 relay. The 1600 sprint medley relay, which breaks down as a 200-200-400-800 race, saw David Fajoyomi, Sam Houston, Sean Collins, and Sean Atkinson take second in 3:28.85, while the men's 4x400 relay of Atkinson, Collins, Lester Taylor, and Fitzgerald took home eighth in 3:18.56.
The remaining men's relays were in the distance medley and 4x1500 relays. The distance medley relay group of Taylor, Houston, Michael Rossi, and Jonathan Annelli were 13th in 10:17.90, while the 4x1500 team of Mike Turi, Quincy O'Connor, Ben Delikat, and Devin Kelly were tenth in 16:43.73.
The next competition for some of the Rams will take place on Sunday, April 7th, at the Queens College Invite, held in Flushing, N.Y.
