Final Stats

April 14, 2013 - Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham senior Amy Simidian was honored in a special pre-match Senior Day ceremony by head coach Bette-Ann Speliotis Liguoriand had a vocal group of friends turn out to support her for the final home match of her career. And she didn't disappoint her coach or supporters, battling back after dropping the first set to win in three sets and lead the Rams to a 5-2 win over Long Island University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.

With the win, Fordham closes out the regular season with a 10-7 record while LIU falls to 9-3.

Simidian dropped her first set at first singles to Sanne Louwers, 7-5, but came back to win the second, 6-4. Simidian then completed the comeback with a 6-4 victory in the third set much to the delight of her friends who released balloons, set off party poppers and blew noise makers following her match-ending win.

The Rams won three other singles matches, two when the opponent retired with an injury. Sarah Ali defeated Taysha Blessington at second singles, 6-3, 6-4, while Angelika Dabu was leading Katya Yegoreychenko, 3-2, at the third position when Yegoreychenko reired and Anika Novacekwon at sixth singles when her opponent, Brittany Thompson, retired with Novacek up 5-0 in the first set.

Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. Simidian and Ali took first doubles from Blessington and Louwers, and Novacek and Bella Genkina were victorious over Yegoreychenko and Aleksandra Pavlovic at the second position by identical 8-6 scores. Dabu and Julie Leong completed the doubles sweep for the Rams with an 8-4 win over Lisa Maas and Thompson at third doubles.

The Rams will open play at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday, April 18, at The Boars Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia.
