Day Three Results
Geneva, Ohio - (Feb. 22, 2013) - The Fordham women's swimming & diving team remains in third place after day three of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Rams earned three more All-Atlantic 10 honors, led by senior Brienne Ryan, who after runner-up finishes in each of the last three A-10 Championship, brought home gold in the 100-yard backstroke.
Overall, Richmond leads the competition after the day three with 522 points, followed by Massachusetts (468), Fordham (337.5), La Salle (308), George Washington (191.5), Rhode Island (187), Duquesne (164.5), St. Bonaventure (137.5), Saint Louis (137), Xavier (113), and Butler (56).
The night of finals began with the 400-yard individual medley event, as Frances Warren finished fourth in the "B" final (12th overall), clocking in at 4:30.58.
Next up was the 100-yard butterfly, where Fordham had two swimmers in the finals. Shannon Lulley led the way in the "A" final, taking second place in a time of 55.02 seconds, while Shannon Jones was fourth in the "B" final (12th overall) in 56.22 seconds.
In the 200-yard freestyle, both Alana Biagioli and Kara Field made the "A" final with Biagioli earning seventh place in 1:51.57, while Field was eighth in 1:52.17.
Fordham continued to score two swimmers at a time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Kelly Carroll placed seventh in the "A" final in 1:04.27 with Victoria McGovern winning the "B" final, good for ninth overall, in 1:05.44.
The Rams saved the best for last, as four Fordham swimmers scored in the 100-yard backstroke, three of which were in the "A" final. First, Jordan Tomimatsu placed fourth in the "B" final (12th overall) in 57.27 seconds, then it was the trio of Brienne Ryan, Spencer Chappell, and Chandler Lulley in the "A" final. Ryan, the A-10 runner-up in this event for the last three years, took home the gold, outlasting A-10 rival Lauren Hines from Richmond in a time of 52.97 seconds. She is Fordham's second A-10 champion in the 100 backstroke, joining Erika Newell who did so in 2005. Chappell would finish sixth in the race in 56.71 seconds, while Lulley was eighth in 57.08 seconds.
With no divers competing on the three-meter board, the final women's event was the 400 medley relay, where Fordham's group of Ryan, Carroll, Shannon Lulley, and Biagioli captured silver in a time of 3:43.87.
The final day of the championship will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday with preliminary heats, followed by the finals at 6:30 PM.
