Day Two Results
Geneva, Ohio - (Feb. 21, 2013) - The Fordham women's swimming & diving team sits in third place after day two of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The night proved to be a big one for Fordham's Lulley sisters as Shannon set the school record in the 200 individual medley, while both Shannon and Chandler were a part of another school record in the 200 freestyle relay.
Overall, Richmond leads the competition after the second day with 298 points, followed by Massachusetts (216), Fordham (183.5), La Salle (176), George Washington (99), Duquesne (86.5), Xavier (85), Rhode Island (84), St. Bonaventure (78), Saint Louis (76), and Butler (42).
The night of finals began with the 500-yard freestyle event, as Kara Field finished fourth in the "B" final (13th overall), clocking in at 4:59.22. Megan Zarriello then placed seventh in the "A" final with a time of 4:57.49.
Next up was the 200-yard individual medley, where Fordham had five swimmers in the two heats of finals. Shannon Lulley led the way in the "A" final, taking second place in a school record time of 2:02.29, breaking Courtney Collyer's 2012 record of 2:02.59. In the "B" final, Kelly Carroll was third (11th overall) in 2:05.01, followed by Spencer Chappell in sixth (14th overall - 2:06.66), Megan Gehrich in seventh (15th overall - 2:07.93), and Theresa Goehring in eighth (16th overall - 2:08.59).
The last of the individual events for the women was the 50-yard freestyle, as five more Rams made the finals. The "B" final saw Kellie Lyver and Chandler Lulley tie for the top spot (9th & 10th overall) with a time of 23.87 seconds, while Alana Biagioli was fourth (12th overall - 23.99) and Shannon Lulley tied for fifth (13th overall - 24.10). Brienne Ryan made the "A" final of the 50 freestyle, finishing in fifth place with a time of 23.60 seconds.
The final women's event of the night capped a great night for the Lulley sisters, as both Shannon and Chandler joined Lyver and Carroll to place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a school record time of 1:34.76. It broke the previous mark of 1:34.90, set in 2011.
Day three of the championship will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday with preliminary heats, followed by the finals at 6:30 PM.
